Piercing minors requires strict adherence to local age laws, mandatory parental consent, and foolproof record retention. PRF app includes a built-in Piercing Minors Flow that automatically detects minor clients by birthdate, dynamically presents the appropriate legal clause, alerts the piercer in the backend, and guides staff through capturing parental ID and proof of legal guardianship.

Here is a complete step-by-step breakdown of how to configure and process minor clients safely and legally in PRF app.

1. Setting the Minor Legal Clause (Settings > EDITORS Tab)

PRF gives studio owners full control over contract language while providing battle-tested default clauses out of the box.

  • Accessing the LEGAL Editor: Go to Settings > EDITORS Tab > LEGAL editor (protected by your Master Passcode).

  • Preloaded Default Minor Clause: PRF includes a robust preloaded minor clause shared by veteran professional piercers:

    "I approve of the piercer who is piercing my son/daughter/ward. I agree to release and forever discharge and hold the piercer and all studio employees harmless from all claims, damages, or legal actions arising from or connected with the piercer or the procedure used for piercing. By my signature below, I certify that I am the parent/legal guardian of this minor, who is willingly submitting to these procedures."

  • Customization: Studio owners can edit these preloaded defaults at any time or paste custom legal language provided by their local legal counsel.

2. Automatic Minor Detection during New Client Flow

The intake process begins just like a standard client session, but PRF’s backend engine actively monitors client birthdates in real time:

  1. Client DOB Entry: During Step 2 (BIO), the client inputs their date of birth using the date-picker wheel.

  2. Dynamic Age Calculation: If the client's calculated age is under 18, PRF automatically flags the session as a Minor Intake and activates minor protocols in the background.

  3. Minor Health Screening: The minor completes the standard HEALTH questionnaire, disclosing any active allergies, medical conditions, fainting/syncope history, medications, or time of last meal/hydration.

  4. Automatic Clause Selection: When the client reaches Step 6 (LEGAL), PRF automatically presents only the single clause relevant to their age:

  • Under 18: PRF displays your custom or default Minor Legal Clause.

  • 18 and Older: PRF displays the standard Adult Legal Clause.

  1. Minor Signature: The minor client initials the legal clauses, signs the digital signature pad, and taps DONE.

  2. Lobby Lock Screen: The iPad locks on the green confirmation screen: "NICELY DONE. PLEASE TELL STUDIO STAFF TO TAKE OVER FROM HERE."


3. Piercer Alert & Guardianship Prompt in the Piercer Notes Pane Flow

Once the minor completes their portion of the intake, hand the iPad to the piercer or studio staff:

  1. Tap the PIERCER: TAP TO BEGIN padlock icon and enter your Piercer Passcode or Master Passcode (default is 1234).

  2. Minor Health & Age Alert: After unlocking the Piercer Notes Pane Flow, PRF immediately displays a prominent alert warning the piercer that the age provided indicates a minor client, along with any flagged medical conditions (such as syncope or keloid history).

  3. Guardianship Directive: The app prompts the piercer to verify that a parent or court-appointed legal guardian is physically present with valid government-issued photo identification and legal proof of guardianship (e.g., Birth Certificate or Legal Guardianship Papers).

  4. Tap I UNDERSTAND to enter the secure Piercer Notes Pane.



4. Photographing Guardian ID & Proof of Guardianship

To defend your studio against legal claims or health department audits, you must attach physical proof of parental relationship directly to the digital waiver:

  1. In the Piercer Notes Pane, scroll down to the SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS section.

  2. Tap Add with iPad Camera (or select from iPad camera roll if pre-scanned).

  3. Photograph Guardian ID: Capture a clear, well-lit photo of the parent or legal guardian’s government-issued ID (Driver's License, State ID, or Passport). Select document type: Legal Guardian ID.

  4. Photograph Proof of Guardianship: Capture a clear photo of the supporting relationship document (State Birth Certificate, Adoption Papers, or Court Guardianship Decree). Select document type Birth Certificate or Custom Document.

  5. The system immediately renders both high-resolution images onto the final compiled PDF waiver alongside the client's ID photo.

5. Parent / Legal Guardian Authorization & Signature

Next, hand the iPad to the parent or legal guardian to complete their legal authorization:

  1. In the Supporting Documents / Guardian Authorization section, the parent or legal guardian reviews the custom Minor Legal Clause on screen.

  2. The guardian types their Full Legal Name and selects their relationship to the minor (e.g., Mother, Father, Court-Appointed Legal Guardian).

  3. The guardian signs the Guardian Signature Pad using a finger or stylus, then taps DONE.



6. Piercer Logging, Sterilization Lots & Cloud Upload

With parental authorization secured, the piercer finalizes the session setup:

  1. Log Setup Details: In the Piercer Notes Pane, select the specific Piercing Placement, Jewelry Material (e.g., Implant-Grade Titanium ASTM F-136, 14k/18k Gold), Gauge, Jewelry Type (Threadless, Internally Threaded), and Initial Post Length.

  2. Scan Lot & Autoclave Numbers: Use SCAN BARCODE/QR or READ PRINTED NUMBER (OCR) to capture needle/cannula lot codes and autoclave sterilization load numbers directly off packaging for health code compliance.

  3. Log Session Financials: Enter base cost, deposit, and payment method details.

  4. Piercer Sign-Off: Tap PIERCER SIGNATURE, sign the pad, and tap FINISH & UPLOAD.
